The Mount of Temptation

The Mount of Temptation

Visit the Mount of Temptation where Jesus was tempted by the devil during his 40-day fast in the desert. You can hike to the top of the Mountain (30mins) or take a cable car (5-10mins).
On the way up to the Mountain you will pass the Quarantal Monastery which was built in the place where the devil tempted Jesus to turn stones into bread. The Monastery is located at a unique place: the steep cliffside of the Mount of Temptation. The name of the Quarantal Monastery comes from the Latin word “Quarentena” which means forty. It refers to the forty-day-fast of Jesus.

According to the New Testament, after Jesus’ baptism, the Holy Spirit led him into the desert for a time of fasting. There Satan tempted Jesus three times. He wanted Jesus to demonstrate his power and offered him all the kingdoms of the world if Jesus worshipped him. However Jesus resisted and answered the devil with passages from the Bible. Seeing that Jesus would not give into him, the Satan left.
