Umm al-Tut Reserve Trail

Trial in the form of a horseshoe in the Umm Al- Tutt Reserve, about 7 km southeast of Jenin City.

A tour through the trail

The trail starts about 700 m to the west of Tawt village (south of Jenin). It was built in the shape of a horseshoe, about 2 kilometres long and started from the plain grounds located along the main road linking Jenin and Umm Tut, which elevates about 250 m above sea level. This road is extended between two wooded lands, the first one is located to the north with forests and woodlands of pine and cypress and an area of around 1200 dunums and known as El-Naser Forest, while the second area (the corresponding) known as the Umm Tut Reserve, many types of forest trees grow in it, in addition to wild trees and shrubs.

The visitor starts the trail inside the reserve, which swallowed an area of ​​about 320 dunums, to climb towards the west summit of the reserve, where height reaches about 300 m above sea level, and on his left, visitor realizes a wide plain surrounded by natural trees, which is in an open area from four sides. Several trees are found such as Oaks, carob, mastics, which was grown without human intervention, to be a natural park that changes shape and colour according to the seasons of the year.

After the visitors pass about half of the trail, it starts by turning north towards the village of Umm Tut, and at a distance of about 500m, reaches its historical centre. In this area, the visitor can see the uncultivated mountainous nature reserve and its cultivated plain areas, which are connected to the three famous meadows “Ibn Amer, Sanor, and Arraba”, thus becoming the (Masset al-aoqoed) and a passage pathway for migratory birds, and a shorthand for the authentic nature of Palestine as it was since ancient time.

Biodiversity

The area is characterized by the presence of a natural mountain reserve in which wild trees flourish, and its cultivated plain areas, due to its connection to the three famous meadows mentioned above, to be a corridor for migratory birds, and stable and attractive to resident birds. The visitor can also see the black kite, the swift, the eagle's owl, Eurasian Sparrowhawk and other birds, and there are some mammals in the area, such as the golden jackal, the European badger, Palestinian mountain. The area thrives of floras such as anemones, and saffron where several butterflies hovering around, including the red admiral butterfly.
